Zakat Al Fitr

To spread joy for everyone on the day of Eid, Zakat al-Fitr has been ordained for us, so that by the permission of Allah, it may compensate for any shortcomings in our fasting during the blessed month of Ramadan, such as idle talk and indecent behavior, and to widen the provision for the poor and make them happy. According to Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) made Zakat al-Fitr obligatory as a purification for the fasting person from idle talk and indecent behavior, and as a provision for the needy. Whoever pays it before the Eid prayer, it is accepted as Zakat, and whoever pays it after the Eid prayer, it is considered as Sadaqah among other acts of charity. Furthermore, it contributes to the solidarity of the community and bridges the gap between different social classes. Zakat al-Fitr is named as such because it is imposed after the end of the fasting month, Ramadan, and it is obligatory for the needy on the day of Eid. According to the statement issued by Dar al-Fatwa / Zakat Fund in the Bekaa region, Zakat al-Fitr for the year 2024 is estimated at: $4.5 USD as a minimum amount per Muslim. The Zakat Fund in the Bekaa region ensures that these funds and charities reach their rightful beneficiaries among the poor, needy, widows, and destitute.
