
The spiritual meeting of Bekaa - Azhar Al-Bekaa

On Tuesday, January 9, 2024, corresponding to 27 Jumada al-Thani 1445 H, at 11:00 AM, the spiritual meeting was held at Dar Al-Fatwa Al-Bekaa / Azhar Al-Bekaa, under the title "Ethical, Social, and Economic Security in the Bekaa."
The meeting was initiated with a welcoming remark by His Eminence the Mufti of Zahle and the Western Bekaa, Dr. Sheikh Ali Al-Ghazawi, to the members of the meeting, the respected dignitaries and justices in the Bekaa:
- His Eminence the Archbishop of Baalbek, Zahle, and the Bekaa for the Melkite Greek Catholics, Bishop Ibrahim Mikhayel Ibrahim.
- The shepherd of the Maronite Archdiocese of Zahle, Bishop Joseph Maalouf.
- The Mufti of Baalbek-Hermel, Sheikh Bakr Al-Rifai.
- The Metropolitan of Tyre for the Greek Orthodox, Metropolitan Antonios Al-Souri.
- The shepherd of the Archdiocese of Zahle for the Syriac Orthodox, Bishop Paul Sefer.
- The representative of the Druze community, Sheikh Daniel Saïd.
- The representative of the Higher Shiite Islamic Council, Judge Assad Allah Al-Harshi.
- The Mufti of Rashaya, Dr. Sheikh Wafiq Hajjazi, represented by Sheikh Ibrahim Hussein.
- The shepherd of the Maronite Archdiocese of Baalbek, Bishop Hanna Rahme.
- The Patriarchal Vicar of the Archdiocese of Baalbek for the Greek Catholics, Bishop Edouard Daher.
- The shepherd of the Archdiocese of Tripoli and all North Lebanon, Bishop Edouard Daher. Mufti Baalbek Sheikh Khalil Shaqeer apologized for his absence due to urgent health reasons.
- Then, the meeting extended its gratitude to His Eminence the Mufti of the Republic, Sheikh Abdel Latif Derian, and all the leaders of the spiritual sects in Lebanon for their national stances and their call to hold such meetings that contribute to the safety and prosperity of our society and our country, Lebanon.
Afterwards, the meeting discussed the agenda and the current situation, and the latest developments led to the following statement:
- Condemnation of Israeli attacks, assassinations, and violations of the rights and sovereignty of the Lebanese state by killing innocent civilians and destroying property and institutions.
- Calling on the representatives of the people and members of parliament to expedite the completion of the presidential elections and to return to the regular functioning of institutions, to avoid the consequences of vacuum and the collapse of the economy and institutions.
- The attendees thanked the leadership of the army and security forces for maintaining security and emphasized the need for strict control over the security situation and warning against the escalating lawlessness that leads to increased rates of killings, assaults, and thefts even in broad daylight.
- Warning against promoting the phenomena of "atheism and sexual deviation" through the media and trying to legitimize them, and the great danger they pose to the family, society, and the remaining values and morals. They called on all authorities, whether governmental or civil, as well as schools, universities, mosques, and churches, to stand firmly against this destructive deviation from all values and morals.
- Warning against sedition and instigating chaos through some irresponsible positions or statements and slogans that are released without consideration or wisdom.
- Calling for addressing the file of Syrian displacement and its repercussions at all levels, internally and externally, and working to ensure their voluntary and safe return.
- The attendees affirmed that the Lebanese, in what they share and participate in terms of values and principles, respect for coexistence, unity, and solidarity, are a guarantee for stability, progress, and confronting anyone who seeks to ruin Lebanon despite the difficulties the country faces.
- The attendees demanded the retrieval of depositors' funds and the lifting of deprivation from the Bekaa, which suffers from water and electricity interruptions, and support for agriculture and farmers.
