The Hijab Flood in Azhar Al-Bekaa

The Women's Committee - Dar Al-Fatwa of the Bekaa held a celebration at Azhar Al-Bekaa to honor 400 veiled women from Bekaa villages on Sunday, June 1, 2024. The event was sponsored and attended by His Eminence, Mufti of Zahle and Bekaa, Dr. Sheikh Ali Al-Ghazawi, Coordinator of the Future Movement, Haj Saeed Yassin, Administrative Director of Azhar Al-Bekaa Institutions, Sheikh Omar Janbieh, Educational Director, Mrs. Maryam Khalil Al-Mays, Chairwoman of the Women's Committee, Mrs. Shukran Hamid, and members of the Women's Committee, along with a group of esteemed scholars, preachers, families, and heads of municipalities.

The event was hosted by Miss Suhair Youssef and began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by young Maryam Shami, followed by impactful words and stories from veiled sisters about their journey of wearing the hijab. In a distinguished performance, Azhar student Tasneem Al-Ghazawi recited the poem (My Brother, the Oppressors Have Exceeded All Bounds).

The Women's Committee speech, delivered by Mrs. Fatima Handoos, welcomed the attendees and emphasized that the hijab is a crown of chastity and modesty. She stated, "The hijab is not just a piece of cloth on the head, but a crown of chastity, modesty, and purity, and a divine preventive measure."

Mufti Al-Ghazawi also delivered a welcoming speech, recalling the late Mufti Khalil Al-Mays, expressing his loyalty and dedication to him. He congratulated the veiled women and addressed the women of Gaza, saying: "Your hijab covers the flaws of the nation because you are the mother of the nation." He added, "How should our behavior reflect our dress? This message is for those who are veiled, those who have recently started wearing the hijab, and those who will wear it in the future. Your hijab is not just clothing, it is a behavior. Be a role model with your behavior and make your conduct as prominent as your hijab."

The event concluded with the honoring of the veiled women. We ask Allah to make them keepers of His Book and to always be a source of pride for us and all Muslims.
